Welcome to our sonorous world!
The HELIKOOR is a group of singers from South-Estonia, Rõuge, that used to sing in a choir more than 20 years ago. When Estonia went through the "singing revolution" at the beginning of the 90's, Helikoor - then 10-14 year old youths - actively participated in performing the songs of freedom. Estonia's independence was declared on the 20th of August, 1991 and the borders were opened to the world. The youth went on tour to Germany three times between 1991- 1994. They also reached the first category among the youth choirs in Estonia.
Their teacher Heli Teppo (1927-1996) was a passionate and precise conductor. She valued Estonian songs, encouraged young students to get attached to music and always carried her tuning fork with her. Heli Teppo started her teacher career in Vana-Saaluse school and then worked in Rõuge elementary school for the rest of her life.
After 20 a year break, HELIKOOR gathered again! Rõuge elementary school alumni singers as well as singers with connection to Rõuge were invited to join. More than 30 HELIKOOR singers honoured Heli Teppo on her 85th anniversary by performing in Rõuge church on Mother's Day, on May 13th, 2012. The special guest of the concert was Tõnis Mägi, who is one of the most influential and remarkable names in Estonian rock music for the past 40 years. He performed with HELIKOOR the biggest hits of patriotic songs: Koit (Dawn) and Palve (Prayer).
HELIKOOR performed again on June 8th, 2013 during the 325th anniversary celebrations of Rõuge elementary school. Christmas concert took place on Christmas Eve in 2014. Several smaller concerts took place in the following years. The recent highlight was on July 15th, 2018 when HELIKOOR was having their first international concert together with Winterthur Konservatorium youth choir (Switzerland) and Lasva Men's choir.
Today, the same group of singers as well as singers who are connected to Rõuge are participating in rehearsals regularly. The last larger concert took place on August 22nd, 2021 in Rõuge church. See the gallery.

Rõuge - the home of HELIKOOR
Rõuge is situated in South-Estonia, approx. 270 km from Tallinn airport and 75 km from Tartu airport.
Rõuge is considered one of the most beautiful regions of Estonia.
Beautiful, green in nature and often welcoming guests from busy cities for relaxing weekend breaks or holidays.
In 2017 Estonia went through a municipality reform across the country and Rõuge parish merged with Varstu, Haanja, Mõniste and most of Misso parish. The newly formed parish was named Rõuge muncipality, which population now is bit more than 5'000 persons. Its South border meets with Latvian border and East border with Russian - this making Rõuge the only muncipality in Estonia which has borders with two countries.
In the heart of Rõuge village there is a Monument for Estonia Mother and access to Nightingale Valley (Ööbikuorg), which is a short deep gulch debouching into the primeval valley in the southeast part of Rõuge Suurjärv - the deepest lake of Estonia. At the time of flowering of bird-cherries, the valley covered mostly in deciduous tree forest is ringing of nightingales’ song - hence the name of the valley Ööbikuorg (Nightingale’s Valley).
